Sarah Palin, while Tea-Partying, commented on the way things are going– and where they need to be going: “We need a smaller, smarter government back on the side of the people.” We do need to change. But it’s not the “Change” Obama promised that is going to pull our nation out of the slums.

“If we continue to avoid confrontation and retain the status quo of outdated, outmoded local government, it will be impossible for candidates to say ‘read my lips: no new taxes’ with any credibility,” says former Indianapolis deputy mayor, John L. Krauss, who currently directs the Indiana University Public Policy Institute.

What we need is to downsize. No more spreading out and up and around. No more stepped-up spending. We need to prune.

There are three branches to our federal government. Let’s keep those. Much of the rest of the fluff can go. That’s were all our taxes get lost. That’s what is dragging us down.

‘That government is best which governs least.’ -the reason we still read Henry David Thoreau (who was probably quoting Thomas Jefferson, advocate for small government): He was right.

When we do call for small government though, we have to recognize that smaller government means greater citizen responsibility. We have to pick up the slack let go by the Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Interagency Coordinating Committee, the Office of Personnel Management, or the Defense Contract Audit Agency among other Federal Government agencies that we probably could do without.

I don’t discount the necessity of a few federal agencies, but I’d readily submit that the need to streamline is eminent.

Curious about the various federal agencies that your tax dollars fund? Check out this list of US Federal Agencies.

A woman in a hot air balloon realized she was lost.
She lowered altitude and spotted a man in a boat below. She shouted to him, “Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don’t know where I am.”

The man consulted his portable GPS and Replied, “You’re in a hot air balloon approximately 30 feet above a ground elevation of 2346 feet above sea level.. You are 31 degrees, 14.97 minutes north latitude and 100 degrees, 49.09 minutes west longitude.”

She rolled her eyes and said, “You must be a Republican.”

“I am,” replied the man. “How did you know?”

“Well,” answered the balloonist, “everything you told me is technically correct, but I have no idea what to make of your information, and I’m still lost.. Frankly, you’ve not been much help to me.”

The man smiled and responded, “You must be a Democrat.”

“I am,” replied the balloonist. “How did you know?”

“Well,” said the man, “you don’t know where you are or where you’re going. You’ve risen to where you are due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise that you have no idea how to keep, and you expect ME to solve your problem. You’re in EXACTLY the same position you were in before we met, but somehow, now it’s MY fault.”

Some may say that President Barack Obama is a pushover, jerked around by his own party’s liberals, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the Chinese. That’s because he is.

On healthcare reforms and Obama’s plan of action, I think even he is a little confused. Healthcare for an entire nation is complicated. Especially because we’re not starting from scratch.

One of the biggest problems is that people are expecting to be handed their healthcare. What about the rest of us that work for it? There needs to be balance.

Insurance company executives blame pharmaceutical manufacturers, hospitals, medical device companies and other medical service providers for driving their costs upward. We are a a nation with a capitalist economy; it happens. With the natural cycle of the economy, prices will come back down in time.

For a faster solution though, I say leave it to the states to decide on the best healthcare plan for their poor and uninsured.

Former presidential candidate, Mitt Romney, asserts that President Obama’s policies have extended and deepened the recession and that Obama’s healthcare plan ‘makes no sense at all.’

While Massachusetts governor, Romney put in place healthcare reform that has provided all state residents with healthcare insurance. That plan has some similarities with President Obama’s healthcare plan, “but some very big differences,” he says.

He points out that Massachusetts did not raise taxes to pay for the plan, while Obama’s plan would. Obama would cut Medicare, while Massachusetts did not. Obama has sought the power to put price controls in place, but Massachusetts did not.

“Ours is a state-based plan,” he says.

“We took responsibility for dealing with an issue and we solved it our own way. States should be allowed to approach their care for the poor in the way they think best, rather than have President Obama and Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid apply a one-size-fits-all plan for the entire country.

“The way President Obama has gone about it makes no sense at all.”

On the eve of today’s televised healthcare summit, Vice President Joe Biden told the Wilmington News Journal: “This could end up not being good.” He also said that if Republicans “come up with an idea that bends that [cost] curve, we’ll compromise.”

Obama expects this year’s summit to be monumental. Leading representatives from both the Democratic and Republican parties. It would be a bipartisan’s dream. But Obama isn’t bipartisan. He’s pushing an agenda, and compromise isn’t part of it.

Considering the previous couple of attempts at bipartisan cooperation with the President, this great gathering about an issue we all thought had suffocated probably won’t be decisive.

Last week, the president met with Republican leaders in an attempt to put aside partisanship for the good of the nation.

Their goals included job creation and some other issues that needed to be taken care of somewhere between several months and over a year ago.

It didn’t really work.

“We can’t afford to allow politics to stand in the way of a well-functioning government,” the president said.

Does he know what a well-functioning government looks like? Please consider Ronald Reagan’s presidency.

Maybe Obama will eventually realize that promising bipartisanship and then voting for your guy without compromise is considered hypocrisy.

Compare it to your marriage all you like, Mr. President, this is not bipartisanship. And it’s not for the benefit of the nation.

Obama’s pretty sure that something is wrong. . . . “There is a sense that something is different now, that something’s broken, that those of us in Washington are not serving the people as well as we should. At times it seems like we’re unable to listen to one another, to have at once a serious and civil debate.”

Yeah. We’ve noticed. Who hasn’t noticed? The Democrats are so giddy with their congressional majority that they haven’t stopped arguing amongst themselves long enough to do any good for our nation.

Speaking at the annual National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C. the president said this “erosion of civility” sows division and distrust.

I say that the Democrats need to get over their favorable party position and remember the millions of Americans they serve. Watching on the news as our government functions shouldn’t be so scandalous an experience; the republic aspect of our government requires them to vote as their constituents would vote.

The argument would become a lull if congressional representatives would apply this principle in their practice. Who knows what would happen if Washington’s leaders could stop arguing long enough to speak nicely about something important?

Sarah Palin‘s new Book, Going Rogue: An American Life, is scheduled to be released on November 17th. This brews up mixed feelings among many people. What stirs up even more emotions among many people, especially the democratically minded citizens, is Palin’s appearance on the Oprah Winfrey Show.

Palin is appearing on The Oprah Winfrey show November 16th. Oprah told the media she would not have Palin on while she was the Vice Presidential candidate. Now that the election is over she has invited Palin to come on the show and talk about her upcoming book.

This has many Oprah/Obama fans upset. The following are posts left on Oprah’s website:

Oprah, I don’t understand how you would choose to give her any more air time than she has already had. I am all for allowing people to speak their mind, but don’t let your show be part of the publicity that helps her in anyway get another political position.

I am soo disappointed in Oprah for giving Sarah Palin airtime. I will no longer be watching the show.

I’m a huge Oprah fan! But I will not watch this nutty lady from Alaska and anything she might have to say.

Really? I thought Oprah was big into giving woman a voice. And I thought the millions of women who watch the show would encourage that same thing.

In response to the comment, “I am all for allowing people to speak their mind, but don’t let your show be part of the publicity that helps her in anyway…” is just like saying, “I am all for allowing people to speak their mind, as long as it is the same thing that I think.”

For a group that claims Republicans are not tolerant enough you sure are intolerant yourselves. It just further proves the point that Democrats put on the face of equality but they just use that as a foundation to look like saints. It’s a lie.

“I’m very pleased that [Democratic leaders] will be talking, too, about the immoral profits being made by the insurance industry and how those profits have increased in the Bush years.” — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., who also welcomed the attention being drawn to insurers’ “obscene profits.”

“Keeping the status quo may be what the insurance industry wants. Their premiums have more than doubled in the last decade and their profits have skyrocketed.” — Maryland Rep. Chris Van Hollen, member of the Democratic leadership.

“Health insurance companies are willing to let the bodies pile up as long as their profits are safe.” — A MoveOn.org ad

“They’re making record profits. Their premiums keep going up.” US Senator Robert Mendez.

The Liberals would have us believe that health care insurers are making a ridiculous amount of money at the expense of those they insure. Liberal politicians want us to be up in arms and ready to fight the insurers because of the atrocity of their earnings. When one takes a step back and actually looks at the facts, these requests become quite humorous.

Last year health insurers posted a 2.2 percent profit margin. Overall profits grew only 8.8% from 2003 to 2008.

The hard facts give us much more insight into the health care reform. Health insurers were announced to be 35 on the Fortune 500 list of top industries. Where are the complaints and policy changes to regulate the other 34 businesses ranked above the insurers?

C’mon liberals! I can’t wait to hear your campaigns against Tupperware, Hershey, Yahoo, Yum Brands or Molson Coors Brewing. Abiding by the same standards that you have been preaching for the last few months, it would be ABSOLUTELY necessary for all of these evil companies to be called out and publicly ridiculed for being so brutish as to make a profit in a capitalistic society. How dare they!
